The UAMS Health Bone Marrow Procurement Clinic performs bone marrow biopsies that provide important information to physicians regarding the diagnosis, stage and treatment of a blood cancer. These biopsies are typically performed when lab results or scans indicate the possibility of a disease such as multiple myeloma or leukemia. The biopsy is often repeated following a treatment to determine if it was successful. At UAMS Health, the clinic performs over 3,800 procedures per year, about 30% of which are currently done under anesthesia.
